מנהיג דאעש אבו בכר אל בגדאדי מסתתר כיום באזור ההררי מדרום מזרח לעיר פלמירה העתיקה (תדמור), חשף פקיד מודיעין עיראקי.
בראיון ל"רוסיה טודיי ", אמר בכיר במודיעין העיראקי כי הכוחות המזוינים העיראקיים הצליחו לחסום את כניסתו של מנהיג הטרור לעיראק מסוריה, ואילצו אותו לחזור לאזור המדברי הנרחב של נפת חומס.
הפקיד עיראקי אמר כי אל-בגדאדי מוקף כיום בטרוריסטים נאמנים מעיראק, תוניסיה וערב הסעודית.
המחבל המוסלמי לא הצליח לחצות את עיראק עד כה בשל צעדי הביטחון הסוריים והעיראקיים הקשים באזור הגבול, לדברי הפקיד העיראקי.
אל-בגדאדי הוכרז מת במספר מקרים בעבר; אבל אם הוא אכן מסתתר במדבר של חומס, סביר להניח שהוא יוסר או אפילו ייתפס על ידי הכוחות הסוריים ובעלי בריתו בקרוב.
